MSC Indian Union had a big event of celebration i.e Diaconate Ordination of three MSC confreres namely Bros. Darwin, Richard and Syam. They were ordained as deacons by Bishop Emeritus John Baptist Sequiera from Chikmangalore Diocese on 15th Feb 2010. Let’s continue to pray for them.
By now, most of us, if not all, are aware of the earthquake that happened in Haiti last 12th of January this year, and the extent of the damage it brought to the people there and the whole nation.We have confreres in Haiti. They belong to the Province of the Dominican Republic. It has come to our knowledge that our formation house there, which was newly built, was destroyed. However, all our confreres are safe.
The dead body of Archbishop Joseph S. Miot was found among the ruins of his residence. Centres for helping the victims have been established by the Conference of Religious, the MSC and the Jesuits.
May the compassionate love of God compel us to feel and act for our brothers and sisters in Haiti…

Pope Benedict XVI championed the environment in his annual World Day of Peace message on January 1st, Friday,2010.
In his address, entitled: ‘If You Want to Cultivate Peace, Protect Creation,’ the Holy Father said peace with the natural environment was the beginning of peace with all of God’s creation.
“Respect for creation is of immense consequence, not least because creation is the beginning and the foundation of all God’s works, and its preservation has now become essential for the pacific coexistence of mankind,” he said.
“Can we remain impassive in the face of actual and potential conflicts involving access to natural resources?” the Pope asked. “All these are issues with a profound impact on the exercise of human rights, such as the right to life, food, health and development.”
“Technologically advanced societies must be prepared to encourage more sober lifestyles, while reducing their energy consumption and improving its efficiency,” while preparing “sustainable strategies to satisfy the energy needs of the present and future generations,” he said.
Pope Benedict XVI challenged the faithful to be good stewards of what “God has given us,” suggesting that peace with the Earth will lead to peace on Earth.
“For this reason, it is imperative that mankind renew and strengthen that covenant between human beings and the environment, which should mirror the creative love of God, from whom we come and toward whom we are journeying,” he said.

On October 14 2009, the General Superior Father Mark McDonald MSC with his council in Rome nominated Father Joseph Christy MSC as the new Union Superior of the Indian Union for a period of three years, after having consulted the members of the Union during his visit in June 2009.

ROME, Italy – Fr. General and the Council have appointed Father Wahyudi Franciscus Xaverius, MSC as the Local Superior of the Generalate Community in Via Asmara, Rome. He will take office on September 15, 2009 for a period of three years.
